In order to develop applicability skills in the Management students a model making activity had been organized for them by Kaizen Club. The purpose of the exercise was to make the students appreciate the finer nuances of operational issues involved in day to day business. Operations management a very important stream of business that is better understood when one steps into the footstep of operations manager. The students in this activity were asked to depict a model of any business and delineate as many as possible operational functions/concepts in that.
The students were divided into teams of 6 members and each team was allotted an industry by balloting. The industry was allotted to the group a day before the activity so that they get time to prepare and bring material for modeling. The club provided the students with some basic material like- thermocol sheet, wooden and fabrication scrap (collected from workshop). The students had to assemble the model using all this stuff in 1 hour time . It was fun to watch the happening in the lobby with students running errands for material, time & resources. Various interesting models were made by the students on –Manufacturing and Service industries like- M2W, Eicher, Avon, Grasim, Mc Donald , Safe express, Cakes & Craft, Reliance Petro etc. The models depicted principles of material flow, layout ,production system, inventory, warehousing and so on.
