Job description :

We are seeking a talented and experienced Floral Designer to join our team at George's Flowers, a Real Local Florist located in the Beautiful Roanoke Valley. George's Flowers was established in 1981 and is an upscale, always busy, flower shop seeking a full-time experienced Floral Designer to fill orders accurately while maintaining company COGS and Labor costs. We are the top dog in our market, and serious about our business. With 44 years of experience, we pride ourselves on being a cutting edge business, always trending forward with technology & design.

We believe the best designers are constantly honing their skills and are interested in evolving with the industry. We’re offering competitive hourly rates and bonuses. The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of retail floral experience, works well under pressure, has a passion for creativity, an eye for detail, a commitment to delivering exceptional floral designs, and has basic computer skills. We are seeking someone whose production per hour meets/exceeds our current rate. The candidate will be required to provide us with that number as well as showcase your skills in the shop.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Consistently create floral designs incorporating effective and innovative use of colors, floral materials, containers, and accent materials, while meeting established criteria for George's Flowers design styles and cost of goods in a busy exciting environment.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities will be dependent on business needs including, but not limited to event design and installation, as well as participating in corporate, residential, gift, and custom design and installation.
  • Develop a working understanding of the basic George's Flowers. Styles of design and accurately create gift line designs based on established standards.
  • Apply proper flower handling fundamental techniques. Maintaining inventory of floral supplies and ensuring freshness and quality of flowers
  • Meet and consistently maintain required standards of production.
  • Successfully interpret clients’ wishes on custom design orders.
  • Possible client contact and sales responsibility as business needs require.

Requirements *do not apply if you do not have these qualifications* :

  • With at least 2 years of floral design or in-shop experience .
  • 3 years experience preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Floral Designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing your creativity and design skills as well as your production per hour rate. 
  • Proficiency in floral design techniques and knowledge of different types of flowers and foliage .
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with clients and team members.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must be efficient and work to provide items for orders needed by the delivery team. 
  • Maintains a clean workspace and tidies up at the end of the workday.
  • Willingness and ability to learn.

Physical requirements :

  • Ability to work on your feet, walking between design counter and cooler.
  • Ability to exert up to 30-50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to crouch, or get up and down throughout the work shift.

Experience and education :

  • Some formal training courses, certificates or degrees.
  • Priority will be given to a designer who is AIFD certified. 
  • Must understand art and design of floral arranging, as well as color theory. 
  • Desire to continue floral design education to hone skills and stay current with the latest design and flower trends.
