Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our site work team on a 3‑month contract basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in earthmoving operations, underground utility installation, and the ability to interpret construction diagrams. You'll work closely with project foremen and other trades to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate execution of site development and utility projects.
Key Responsibilities
Operate a variety of heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, bulldozers, skid steers, and trackhoes for earthmoving and site preparation.
Perform underground utility work: installing, trenching, and backfilling for water lines, storm drains, sanitary sewers, and related systems.
Read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, blueprints, and grading plans to ensure accurate excavation depths, slopes, and alignments.
Conduct pre‑start inspections and routine maintenance on equipment; report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
Adhere to all safety regulations and best practices, including maintaining proper traffic control and trench safety measures (e.g., sloping, shoring).
Maintain clean and organized work areas, ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are stored safely.
Communicate effectively with the foreman and crew members regarding daily tasks, progress updates, and any site hazards.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 4+ years of heavy equipment operation in site work and earthmoving environments.
Utility Work: Demonstrated experience installing and working around underground utilities (water mains, storm drains, sanitary sewers, etc.).
Blueprint Reading: Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, site plans, and hydraulic or utility diagrams.
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform manual work, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in various weather conditions.
Safety Mindset: Strong commitment to following safety procedures and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Preferred Qualifications
CDL Class A Driver's License
OSHA 30‑Hour Construction Safety Certification
