Job Description

Proofreader / Quality Assurance

Do you have a sharp eye for detail and a passion for making every word count? At Tonic3, we’re searching for a Proofreader to join our integrated in-house agency, where creatives and client partners collaborate to deliver exceptional work. As the final line of defense before content reaches audiences nationwide, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring every piece is accurate, consistent, and aligned with brand voice.

This is more than catching typos - it’s about protecting the integrity of a leading Fortune 500 brand and helping our creative teams deliver work that’s polished, professional, and impactful. If you thrive on precision, consistency, and collaboration, this role gives you the opportunity to shape how thousands of people experience our client’s communications across print, digital, and social platforms.

Position Overview: The Proofreader ensures that all written content is accurate, polished, and consistent across multiple channels, including client communications, marketing collateral, social media, direct mail, and more. You’ll act as a guardian of grammar, style, and brand voice, collaborating closely with writers, designers, and project managers to maintain high editorial standards in a fast-paced environment.

Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 per year.

This range is aligned with market rates for Mid-Senior Proofreader roles across our hiring locations. While the range is competitive for in-house and mid-sized teams, final compensation will be determined based on a candidate’s skills, experience, and the value they bring to the role, with flexibility to recognize unique strengths and expertise.

Location:

  • Schaumburg, IL (3 days per week in the office, 2 days remote).

What You’ll Do:

  • Review copy across print and digital deliverables to ensure grammatical, spelling, and stylistic accuracy.
  • Enforce internal style guides and brand voice across all materials.
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to writers and designers on content improvements.
  • Identify inconsistencies, errors, and potential risks in creative materials before release.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain quality standards under tight deadlines.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and suggest innovative approaches to elevate copy quality and audience engagement.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with accessibility standards (ADA) where applicable.
  • Track and manage proofreading workflows efficiently across multiple projects.

Who You Are:

  • 5+ years of expert-level proofreading experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong command of AP Style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Experienced in reviewing content for multiple channels, including print, email, social, and digital.
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Collaborative, able to communicate clearly and professionally with writers, designers, and stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines with multiple concurrent projects.
  • Naturally curious and eager to understand the client’s products, services, and audiences.
  • Previous experience in an agency or financial setting is preferred.

Feeling a little unsure if you ticked all the boxes? No worries, my friend! Your unique skills and experiences are truly valuable. So why not take the leap and apply anyway if this opportunity excites you? We are rooting for you!
